Not only can a physical therapist help you obtain relief from pain and restore the strength and flexibility you need to get back to life, they can help you learn how to keep the results and prevent future injury. Physical therapists have more training and tools available to help you get results than anyone else! And, with it's medical roots, it's the perfect compliment to the care you receive from your physician.
Specifically at Mission Physical Therapy, we use a more gentle but effective osteopathic-style manipulation, trigger point release, tool-assisted soft tissue mobilization (i.e., ASTYM), dry needling or Western anatomical acupuncture, and deep tissue class IV laser. We can analyze and correct the way you walk or run. We can teach you how to lift, squat, lunge, and dead lift without pain and more effectively. We can analyze your desk, computer, or work place ergonomics. We can help you know what position to sleep in for a good night's rest. We can improve your sports performance, and more!
Physical therapy's roots lie in medicine. In fact, the first physical therapists were trained by and worked under the direction of medical doctors performing the more physical medicine, such as stretches, joint mobilization, massage and soft tissue mobilization, strengthening, and other exercises. They also used a variety of thermal and electrical modalities, such as hot packs, cold packs, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, diathermy, etc. They sometimes used various forms of traction.
