Does the room spin or do you feel like you're on a boat? Do you bump into things or feel awkward? Do you lose your balance? Have you experienced any falls?
With so many causes of dizziness or vertigo, it's no wonder so many suffer with it! It can be caused by medication, low blood sugar, orthostatic hypotension, Menier's, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV, canalolisthesis, cupulolithiasis), brainstem or cerebellar dysfunction, vestibular neuritis, vestibular neuroma, dehydration, migraine or trigeminal neuralgia, or anxiety.
We treat three common causes of vertigo or disequilibrium, as well as balance deficits, functional instability, and poor coordination.
In the case of BPPV, we've had patients who had it for more than 8 years to less than a day get rid of their problem in just one session!
In the case of vestibular hypofunction or dysfunction, most have significant improvement or full resolution of the their symptoms in four to six weeks. Cervicogenic dizziness often resolves two to four weeks.
Balance deficits are resolved best with a holistic approach including not only balance exercises, but manual therapy to restore mobility to the spine, hips, and ankles as well as spine, hip, and ankle core strength training.
